Creating Your Own Designs

Aug 19, 2020

If youā€™ve followed my work for some time, youā€™ll know that something I constantly mention is how I like to teach in a way that empowers you to develop your style and explore your creativity.

I see no point in just showing you how to felt an object. When Iā€™m developing my courses, my goal is always to go into the details and the reasons why Iā€™m using a particular technique. That way, you can apply what youā€™ve learnt in a different project, so youā€™re free to develop your own designs. That allows you to grow way beyond the methods taught in a tutorial.

Thatā€™s one of the reasons I was so happy when I got an email from Audrey Petzold a couple of weeks ago. Audrey bought the tutorial ā€œFelt Food ā€“ Fruitā€ last April and she wanted to know if the basic procedures I used for making the toy fruits could be scaled up to make life size fruits.

I told Audrey it was perfectly possible, and that she just had to make sure that the inner layers were felted enough to apply the next ones. Basically, al...

How To Felt A Hat - The Classics

May 01, 2020

As I have been talking about for some time, Iā€™mĀ working on a masterclass about hats.

Deciding what hats to teach about was a hard task. Itā€™s a topic that really allows you to explore your creativity. Thereā€™sĀ no end to what you can do with felted hats. But I decided to go for the classics. I bet Iā€™ll come back to the hats subject to explore it further, butĀ the classics are a great way to start. They give you the basics that you can build upon later.

So, that means Iā€™ve been working on the following hat types: theĀ beretĀ (of course), theĀ clocheĀ (also fundamental), theĀ fedoraĀ (an imperative), theĀ bowlerĀ and theĀ floppy wide brim hat. Iā€™m really excited about this masterclass and Iā€™m having trouble keeping quiet about this šŸ˜Š

So, I wanted to show you some photos of the finished pieces.

One pattern, three hats

The Fedora

The Cloche

The Bowler

Iā€™ve already filmed the part of the class, where I teach how to felt the hats. Iā€™m now working on filming the decoration. Then, Iā€™ll have...

What Is What In Felting

Apr 02, 2020

Are you going crazy with the ā€˜what is whatā€™ in terms of the wool for felting?

I do my best to avoid insider lingo, but the truth is thereā€™s no escaping. Youā€™ll just have to learn a couple of new terms when it comes to this. Otherwise you risk not getting the right materials for your projects. So here is some of the terminology youā€™re bound to hear if youā€™re taking on felting:

Raw fleeceĀ is what you call the wool when itā€™s right off the animal and unwashed (that means dirty and greasy). This is not something you can normally get, unless you buy directly from a sheep farm.

Scoured fleeceĀ has been washed to remove lanolin and dirt, but it still has the lock structure. I use it to fill pillows or for dollā€™s hair, for example.

Wool batts, wool batting or carded woolĀ is very similar to quilt batting. Itā€™s the result of removing the debris from the wool with a machine that breaks up the lock structure, and then going through the carding machine. The carder brushes and blends the fibers ...

Staying Home?

Mar 26, 2020

Hi!

Hope you and your family are doing well.

Weā€™reĀ all being affected by COVID-19Ā in so many ways and feeling anxious about the situation (to say the least).

Now that so many of us areĀ staying homeĀ and havingĀ a lot of free timeĀ on our hands,Ā wet felting can be uplifting, fun and relaxing. If youā€™re starting out, I suggest youĀ take a look around my siteĀ and check out all theĀ available FREE resources. If you want to jump in andĀ explore more complex projects, now is a great time to do that.

Because Iā€™d like to offer you something special during this moment, I decided to have aĀ 20% discount in all the items in my Etsy shopĀ exclusively for subscribers. If youā€™re a subscriber, youā€™ll get the information via email.

TheĀ 20% discount will be applied at checkoutĀ and itā€™s validĀ until Easter Sunday, April 12th.

Thereā€™s something else Iā€™d like to talk to you about today. I wanted to tell you Iā€™mĀ working on a new site. Why a new site? There are several different reasons.

As you might have n...

New Felted Toys And Ask Me Anything

Jun 21, 2018

To complete the collection of play fruit, hereā€™s a second PDF tutorial. This time with peaches, plums, apples and pears šŸ˜Š. Itā€™s already available here.

Enjoy!

In the next weeks Iā€™d like to go back to answering your questions. There are some on the list for the next videos already. So, hereā€™s the chance to ask me ANYTHING you want about wet felting! You can leave a comment, use the contact page or write me an email, if you prefer.

No matter whether itā€™s a general question or something about a particular project that went wrong, whether youā€™re just starting with wet felting or youā€™re more advanced. All I ask is that you give me as much information as possible. For example, if your question is about a particular project, adding a couple of photos can help me better understand where the problem is.

Talk to you soon!

Felted Play Food PDF tutorial

Jun 07, 2018

Today I bring you a new workshop. After being asked for more PDF tutorials, I am now creating some of the ones I had on video in a printable version.

This one is about play food and itā€™s based on a video course I launched last October. You can watch a video about the course here and check out some free videos on the included material here.

With over 140 pages and hundreds of detailed color photos, the PDF tutorial covers citrus fruits (oranges, mandarins and lemons) and berries (cherries, strawberries, blackberries and mulberries), and it includes:

0. Introduction
1. Materials and equipment
2. Making the pre-felts
3. Using leftovers to fill new felt pieces
4. Oranges, mandarins and lemons
5. Strawberries, cherries, blackberries and mulberries
ā€¢ Leaf templates (1 PDF)
ā€¢ Bonus: Basics of wet and needle felting (1 PDF)

This is a beginner level tutorial, so you donā€™t need to have any experience in wet felting. The bonus PDF gives you all the basics and has links to more detailed videos...

New PDF Tutorial - Bah Bah Tablet Sleeve

May 24, 2018

As you know, I create most of my workshops on video. But Iā€™m often asked why I donā€™t have more PDF tutorials. One of the reasons people tell me they like them is because theyā€™re easier to download and to use.

So, Iā€™m now working on it. Expect to see more PDFs in the next coupe of weeks.

For now, here it is, one of my bestsellers, the Bah Bah Tablet Sleeve as a PDF tutorial, that you can download and print.

Hope you enjoy it!
